Dale Street Arts, Todmorden is a friendly, welcoming gallery, specialising in original artwork. Run by artists Jude Howe and Stan Pile, the full range of their work can be seen here
Jude works mainly in Ceramics and Glass, with the occasional venture into Textiles. Sometimes involving a range of different media, her work focuses on organic form. Work may be influenced by the human body or just as often is inspired by patterns from the natural environment or life forms from the Ocean. The relationships between internal and external space are ever present.
Jude regularly works in collaboration with Stan, sharing a Studio
Stan is a Mixed Media Artist. He is well known for his Garden Sculpture in Stainless Steel, Ceramic and Wood. Ceramic Impressions are taken from found surfaces in the natural environment using flax clays. Colour comes from both the original form and added as enhancement, using natural substances such as smoke and oxides
A selection of abstract paintings by Malcolm Taylor and work by Roo Waterhouse and Rachel Johns are also exhibited at Dale Street
Roo's paintings celebrate the 'moments of awareness' when we suddenly find ourselves really looking at some object we normally pay little attention to in the course of our everyday lives. She captures these moments, preserving them in paint, paying homage to those things around us which we may take for granted, and reminding us to stop and appreciate them. These accumulated possessions are important; they are part of who we are, containing fragments of our personal identity. She observes and appreciates our relationships with familiar household belongings; how they hold on to the stories of our lives and become links to past times
Rachel specialises in unique Ink drawings
" fleeting inspirations captured in slow deliberate or fast furious movement,
an unknown narrative toying with the subconscious,
stirring the animal, mythical, majestic, buried within us,
reflecting the sad, the playful, the sensual, aspects deep within,
the power, beauty, strength, frailty, light, darkness; the thin line we dance"
Dale Street Arts carries a range of exciting work. Come and have a browse.
